There are a number of ways you can accept payment from your online store.

- Immediate payment with credit card using a 3rd party payment gateway such as Paypal
- Payment by Cheque or in situ at your point of sale.
- Perform Test payments with a test gateway.

You can offer your customers multiple ways to purchase their items online.

Choosing immediate payment by credit card is the most common practise. As 99% of shopping cart systems the system does not perform any authorisation or storing of private confidential information. This is handled by the 3rd party payment gateway who specialises in this process. There are a number of payment gateways you can choose to use and accept validated online payments instantly. The system sends to the gateway the order total and basic order information on checkout and the customer gets redirected to the payment gateway site where the payment card details are entered. If authorisation is successful the payment gateway communicates electronically with your eShop and notifies a successful payment has been made and you can proceed to fulfill the order.

The first payment solution in the list will be set as the default gateway and pre-selected. If you wish to set a gateway as the default make sure and set the order to 1 on the gateway edit page.
